If you love the work of Berlin’s Pixel company No.1 Eboy and the 80’s Pixel art, you will probably also enjoy the Bitboard project. Interaction designer and pixel guru Sam Raymann (Zurich, Switzerland) has had a simple and unique idea in 2011 to bring the pixels into your kitchen: create your own kitchen board using light and dark pixels. The board is being produced by one of Zurich’s Social Facilities and is made of light wood (Maple) and dark wood (Walnut) from happy Swiss trees.
Speaking of Sam it is possible to create about 453’709’822’561’251’032’758’287’056’861’279’551’488 variations. Some of them are shown in the gallery on the Bitboard website. The open beta phase has started in December 2011 and will be finished at the end of January 2012. New boards are expected to be produced at the end of January 2012. Go and get your very own Bitboard (site currently only available in German).
